Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Grease a 3-quart baking dish with butter.

In a medium bowl, cream 1/2 stick butter and 1 cup sugar together. Then add milk slowly.

Stir dry ingredients together and combine with butter mixture slowly (a few tablespoons at a time). Batter should be a thick paste
|
|
|
Spread part of the batter into baking dish. Layer the berries generously and evenly over top of batter. Pour remaining batter over. Sprinkle the extra 1/4 cup sugar and pour melted butter on top. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, about 45 min or until middle is set.
