     Savory Crouton/Sausage Dressing

Ingredients
1 lb. sliced white bread
1 lb. ground sausage
4 tbsp. butter or more
3 C onion, diced
2 C celery, diced
3 eggs, beaten
1 to 2 C chicken broth
salt & pepper

Instructions
Cut bread into 1 inch cubes and toast 20 to 30 minutes in 350 degree oven. Brown sausage and drain, reserve fat. Place cooked sausage into large bowl, set aside. Return fat to skillet and add enough butter to make about 1/2 cup liquid. Add onion and celery and sauté until tender. Stir into sausage and cool slightly. Add beaten eggs.
Add bread cubes and stir thoroughly to mix. Pour one cup broth over it and mix again. Add more broth as needed. Place into greased 9 X 13 baking dish. Pour additional broth over if needed. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes at 325. Remove foil and bake 15 - 20 minutes longer.
