     Caramel Frosting (salted if desired)

Ingredients
1/3 cup caramel sauce
1 stick of butter, softened
4 cups of powdered sugar
Milk if needed
Salt
 

Instructions
Make caramel sauce according to the DeskTop Cookbook recipe. Let it cool completely. Mix softened butter, caramel, and powdered sugar amd blend on medium with a mixer until smooth and glossy. Thin with a teaspoon of milk at a time until right consistency for your use.
Pipe onto cupcakes or use to frost a 2 layer cake. Duncan Hines German Chocolate cake mix is a good choice and this is enough frosting to frost 24 cupcakes. If you want salted caramel flavor you can add 1/2 teadpoon of salt to the frosting and/or drizzle some caramel sauce over the frosting and sprinkle with flaked or coarse salt.
