Mix shortening, chopped dates, and boiling water.
Add salt, sugar, and eggs to date mixture. Then
add flour and baking soda to mixture. Finally,
add vanilla and nuts.
Pour into greased 8 x 8 pan. Cover batter with
topping and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
