     apflel strudel ( apple strudel)

Ingredients
2 eggs
6 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 cup blanched almonds, chopped
2 tablespoons citron, minced finely
1/4 cup currants
2/3 cup sugar
 
1 + 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
whipped cream, optional

Instructions
put eggs in a medium bowl, beat well. beat in 1/2 of the butter. then beat in flour and salt. knead dough for 15 minutes.
stretch dough out to a very thin rectangle. sprinkle apples along one side of the dough. then sprinkle almonds, citron, currants, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg on top of apples.
dot with 1 tablespoon butter. fold pastry over filling. shape in long roll.
spread rest of butter over top. bake in 375-degree oven for 35-45 minutes or until browned.
Serving Suggestions
serve warm with or without whipped cream
