Saute onion in butter, add mushrooms and saute. Remove mushrooms and set aside in a bowl. Roll meat in a small amount of flour and saute until browned. Turn down heat and add 1 C. water, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally. !/2 hour before serving add mushrooms and sour cream over low heat. Serve over rice or egg noodles.
