1 1/2 c. of sifted flour
|

1 tsp. baking soda
|

1 tsp. salt
|

1 c. shortening
|
|
3/4 c. brown sugar
|

3/4 c. granulated sugar

2 eggs- unbeaten
|
|
1 tsp. hot water
|
|
2 pkgs. (14 oz) Nestle bits
|

2 c. oatmeal
|
|
1 tsp. vanilla
|
|
1 c. chopped walnuts
|

Instructions |
|
|
Sift flour once before measuring then sift soda and salt. Cream shortening until soft.
|

Add sugars gradually, cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
|
|
|
Add hot water and vanilla to creamed mixture. Add sifted dry ingredients, nuts, chocolate bits, oatmeal and mix thouroughly.
|
|
|
Drop by half tsp. on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. make 6 dozen.
