In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Like when you make a pie crust. Stir in yeast and buttermilk mixture, mix well.
Turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead 3-4 times. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 450 for 8-10 minutes. Lightly brush tops with melted butter. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.
These are yummy with sausage gravy.
