Mix sugar, flour and soda. Heat to boiling, butter, water and cocoa. Pour over dry ingredients.
Stir well; add eggs, vanilla and milk.
Stir until smooth.
Pour into a 12x15 inch jelly roll pan.
Bake 30 minutes at 400 degrees.
Mix icing. Bring to a boil. Cool; add powdered sugar until spreading consistency. Add 1 cup nuts, if desired.
Spread on cake while still warm.
