Dissolve yeast in water. Combine cottage cheese, shortening, sugar, salt, dill, onion, and soda. Beat well. Add yeast, egg and enough flour to make a stiff dough.
Cover, let rise until double. Punch down and let rest for 15 minutes. Shape into a loaf and place in a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Let rise until double again.
Bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
