Place crackers evenly onto the bottom of an ungreased baking sheet.
In a nonstick pot over medium heat stir together the sugar, cream of tartar and butter. Once the sugar melts and the mixture is not (near boil- not boiling) remove from the heat and add pecans. Let cool for 5-10 minutes.
Slowly pour the mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading into an even layer overthe entire cooking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Let the cookies completely cool and harden before eating.
