     Applesauce Cake

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup oil
3 eggs
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup applesauce
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup chopped walnuts

Blend oil and sugar, add eggs and flour with other mixed dry ingredients. Add buttermilk and applesauce.
Bake in a 9X14 pan at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Buttermilk Icing Boil 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1 tsp cream of tartar, and 1/2 tsp soda in double boiler until thickened. Pour over cake and let cool. Strained prunes can be used instead of applesauce with little difference in taste.
