1 1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted
3 tablespoons half-and-half or milk
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts

In a small bowl, combine rolled oats and boiling water. Let stand for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat oven to 350. Grease and flour 13x9 inch pan. In large bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, and butter; beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; blend well. Add oatmeal, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well. Pour the batter into the greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
In a small bowl, combine 2/3 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup butter, and half-and-half. Beat at a high speed until smooth. Stir in the coconut and nuts. Spoon over the warm cake; spread to cover.
Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for 1 to 2 minutes or until bubbly and light golden brown. Cool 1 hour or until completely cooled.
