Sift dry ingredients together thoroughly. Cream butter until soft then gradually add sugar while beating. Add one egg at a time while beating. Add vanilla to milk to butter mixture. Gradually add dry mixture to wet mixture beating well after each addition.

Pour batter evenly onto three 9-inch greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
