scald milk. Stir in sugar, shortening and 1 teaspoon salt. Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast on lukewarm water and stir to dissolve. Add this plus one egg and one cup of flour to the milk mixture. Beat with electric mixer at medium speed until smooth (for about 2 minutes), scraping bowl occasionally. Alternately beat with spoon until batter is smooth. Gradually add remaining flour, a little at a time (dough will be sticky). Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead for 3 minutes. Place in a lightly greased bowl and turn dough over to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours). Then press dough into greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan, and let it rise again until doubled. Combine cheese, 5 Tablespoons milk, onion and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Spread evenly over dough. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake in 375 degree oven for 25 minutes or until top is golden. Cut in squares and serve warm.
