Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly grease a 5 x 9 x 3 inch loaf pan. In a large saucepan, over low heat, put jelly, butter and brown sugar to warm. When butter is melted and sugar dissolved, remove from heat, cover and keep warm. Measure buttermilk and set aside. Sift flour with ginger, cinnamon, soda, cocoa, and salt. To the warmed jelly butter mixture in the pan, add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir just enough to blend well. Pour into prepared pan. Bake until well risen, browned and light to the touch, 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven and cool in the pan. Serve plain or with sweetened whipped cream.
