Cook hamhock until tender. Add additional water to meat pot.
Cut up greens and let them cook slowly for about 2-1/2 to 3 hours. (add the meat to the greens)
Add sugar to season greens (may also need some salt).
Add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil when greens are about halfway cooked.
Add the juice from the meat pot to the greens and stir.
