Cream together the margarine, sugar and eggs. Add buttermilk. Mix dry ingredients together and add. Do not use a mixer or beater, it gets too airy.
Cook in hot lard (350 degrees) turn with fork or other instrument. Cook until brown and place on a cookie sheet lined with paper towels to absorb the grease. If not eaten right away refrigerate or freeze or they will become rancid.
