Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. Sift flour,c ocoa and salt. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add alternately with dry ingredients. Put in milk. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Filling- beat egg whites until stiff. Mix milk, powdered sugar and vanilla. cream shortening. Put all together and beat. Spread between two cookies.

As a child, Tami often played at a friend, Cindy Hall's house. Cindy's mother Kay would sometimes surprise the girls by baking whoopie pies. Today these are a hit at the office.
