Preheat oven to 375. In a medium bowl, use electric mixer to cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; set aside. Sift together flour, soda, salt. Add milk; then flour, soda and salt to butter mixture. Combine nuts, cherries and chocolate then add to mixture, stirring to blend. Drop by heaping tablespoons on greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Cool on wire rack.
