Rinse lentils.
Bring lentils and water to boil.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes.

Add rice and stir for 2 minutes.
1 tsp cumin and 1 bay leaf
|

cover and simmer till lentils and rice are soft, about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.You may have to add up to 1 more cup of water.

|
Heat olive oil in a fry pan
Saute onions and salt until the onions are translucent and very dark.
top mjedreh lavishly with onions
