Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla thoroughly. Blend flour and salt, add to wet ingredients.
Roll 1 tsp dough into balls, dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in nuts. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Press finger into center.
Bake 10 to 12 mins. When cool, fill center with jelly.
HINT- I just dip one side of dough in egg white and the same side in the nuts. otherwise the egg white sticks to the cooking sheet and burns.
