butter a 9 springform pan. finely crush wafers in food processor, using on/off turns. cut in butter until mixture begins to gather together, using on/off turns. press crumbs into bottom of pan and up the sides 3/4 inches from the top.
refrigerate crust for 30 minutes

preheat oven to 325 degrees. heat whipping cream and chocolate chips over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring constantly. cool for 10 minutes
beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. beat in eggs, one at a time until combined. add chocolate mixture and vanilla. stir well. pour into crust. bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. cool completely on rack. refrigerate for 24 hours. to serve spread top with cherry pie filling and whipped cream.
