Southern Skillet Green Beans with Ham
Ingredients
1/2 pound smoked ham, chunks or diced
1 pound fresh green beans, tipped and tailed
1 medium sweet onion, chopped or sliced
(save 1/8 to 1/4 cup onion, mince for garnish)
1 to 2 Tablespoons bacon grease or olive oil
Directions-
Heat bacon grease or olive oil in a 10” skillet to medium high. Add onion and cook 2 minutes, stirring to prevent burning. Add ham and green beans. Continue stirring to prevent burning, 10 minutes or until crisp tender. If you wish to have true Southern beans that are tender…add 1/2 cup water or chicken broth, cover (I used a plate) and cook another 5 to 10 minutes until tender. Top with minced onion. Enjoy!
