Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pam spray a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Beat together sugar and butter at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. At low speed, alternately beat bananas and flour mixture into egg mixture. Stir in nuts (optional). Spoon batter into prepared pan; smooth top. Bake cake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 50-60 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Loosen cake by running a metal spatula around sides of pan. Transfer cake to a serving plate.
To prepare icing, in a small saucepan, mix together brown sugar, butter, milk and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Beat until cool and thickened. Spread icing over top of cake. Let stand until icing has set.
