First you brown the onions in oil till tender. Then add the chilies, garlic, and tomatoes and stir around a couple of minutes. Then add your chicken broth choice and the seasoning. Add the chicken and let it simmer for a while. When you like the way it tastes and how it looks then add the strips of tortilla and simmer a short time more. Your really just letting them soak up the soup and soften slightly. Then ladle in bowls and sprinkle with cheese. If you were taking it somewhere, I would wait till you get there and have reheated it before adding the tortilla strips. Otherwise they just melt into the soup.
