Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Put water to boil in a pot & in the meantime scrub yams well with vegetable brush. Cut yams in half and insert gently into water. Cook until fork tender but not mushy. Drain water, remove yams from pot and allow yams to cool and then peel off skin. Cut yams in half and place in a baking dish flat side up. Top with butter & then sprinkle brown sugar over all of the yams. Follow with drizzles of pancake syrup and top with marshmallows. Bake in oven for approximately 30 minutes until marshmallows melted/slightly browned.
Make ahead- Can prepare yams the day before as described but wait to bake them on the day they will be eaten. Just refrigerate them in the baking dish with all of the ingredients but remove prior to baking 1 hour before placing them in the oven so they come to room temperature.
