1 teaspoon orange blossom water or rose water (used orange blossom water)
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar - 1/2 cup honey
3 whole cloves
Cake-
1 3/4 cups semolina - 1/4 cup coconuts
3/4 - 1 cup sugar (used 3/4 cup)
1 stick soft butter (1/2 cup)
1 cup whole milk or Greek plain yogurt (used 165 ml coconut milk, Blue Dragon)
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 tblspoon baking powder - 1 tblspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 teaspoon orange blossom water or rose water
Blanched almonds to decorate

Basbousa Recipe - Semolina Cake with Syrup!
Egyptian name (pronounced baz-boo-sa)
Lebanon known as Namoura
Syria known as Harissa
Greece and Turkey known as Revani or Ravani
Very Moist and it's really very very
delicious!!
Method- Cake
Cream together, butter, sugar, 1 teaspoon
orange blossom water or rose water. Add eggs
and vanilla essence. In a separate bowl,
combine semolina, baking powder, baking soda
and coconuts. Slowly add to the butter and egg
mixture. Stir milk. Pour mixture into a baking
dish and smooth with spoon. Leave to set for at
least 1 hour. Before you put it in oven take a
butter knife and make diagonal lines from left
to right and complete to make diamond shapes. Place an almond in the center of each diamond.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or till golden brown on
180 c middle shelf. Meanwhile prepare syrup.
Method- Syrup
Dissolve sugar in water in a small pan. Add
lemon juice or orange juice, ground cinnamon,
cloves, ground cardamon and bring to the boil.
Once the syrup begins to boil, add in honey.
Reduce heat and simmer for about 8-10 minutes.
Remove from heat and remove the whole cloves
and add the orange blossom water or rose water,
set aside. When cake is ready pour syrup over
cake until no more can be absorbed. Allow to
cool for 20 minutes before serving. Enjoy the
taste --)
