Preheat oven to 325. Remove skin and excess fat from ham, leaving
a fat layer about 1/4 inch thick. Score ham in a diamond pattern
with a sharp knife. Push cloves into centers of diamonds. Put ham,
cut side down, into a large roasting pan. Bake ham for 2 hours.
Meanwhile, combine brown sugar, whiskey, and pepper in a bowl,
stirring until smooth. Increase oven temp to 375.
Baste ham with a third of glaze. Return to oven and bake, basting
ham with glaze every 10 minutes, for 30 minutes. If ham is
browning to quickly, cover loosely with foil. (The glaze starts to
burn shortly after it's brushed on, so we suggest tenting the ham
with foil after the first basting)
Let ham rest 15 minutes before carving. Serve hot, cold, or at room
temp.
