Preheat grill to medium. Place grill rack 10 inches from heat.
Arrange chicken on grill. Reserve half the salad dressing for the salad.
Grill chicken, turning and brushing with remaining salad dressing, until juices run clear, about 10 minutes.
Cut chicken into slices. Break romain into bite-size pieces. Combine romaine, chicken, croutons, parmesan and reserved salad dressing in a salad bowl and toss to mix. Sprinkle with black pepper, if desired.
