Stir together baking soda and cornstarch in saucepan. Add water
and cook over medium high heat, stirring constantly until mixture
reaches consistency of mashed potatoes, about 10 or 15 mintes.
Remove mixture and put on plate to cool. Be aware that the inside
of the mixture can still be very hot.

|
When cool, place waxed paper on table and form into shapes,
keeping ornaments about 1/2 inch thick. Dip fingers in water to
smooth out the dough if it starts to dry out while you are working.
Allow 1 to 2 days and paint with acrylic paint or felt-tip markers.

|
|
Notes: Make a hanger hole with a toothpick while the dough is still
wet. Recipe makes a large amount of dough. Cut in half or use 1/4
the quantities of ingredients.
Store unused dough in a zip-top. Mold grows quickly in the
mixture, so toss out any unused dough after a week.
