Bring butter to room temperature (about an hour).
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Using a mixer, cream butter and sugar.
Beat eggs in a small bowl.
Add flour, cocoa, and vanilla to the egg mixture.
Mix this mixture in with the butter and sugar.
Spray or grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
Spoon batter into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar (optional).
