Make cake following directions on package. Bake 1/2 the batter in a 9 by 13 pan for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Melt in a double boiler; caramels, butter or margarine and evaporated milk. Pour this over baked layer and sprinkle the chocolate chips and pecans on top.
Pour rest of batter over this and bake 15 minutes (or until done) at 350 degrees. Can frost or eat plain.
