Heat milk, sugar, shortening, and salt until shortening melts, then let cool. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 c. warm (not too hot) water. Add yeast to milk mixture, and then egg.
Stir in 3-3 1/2 c. flour to make a stiff dough.Let rise until double in size. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 2 X 2 inch pieces and fry in hot oil. Serve with honey butter.
