On greased baking sheets, arrange the pecan halves in group of 3, flat side down in Y shapes. Carefully place a caramel on top of each cluster.
Place baking sheets in 300 F oven until the caramels soften, about 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven and flatten the caramels over the pecans with a buttered spoon. Cool slightly.
Melt the chocolate int he top of a double boiler over simmering water. Dip the turtles into the chocolate and cool on waxed paper.
Store in tightly covered containers in a cool place.
