Saute squash, onions, salt and pepper in butter. Cook until squash is tender.
Put squash in casserole dish, fold in crushed saltine crackers, and pour 1/2 cup of milk on top.
Sprinkle sharp chedder and chopped pecans over top. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, take off foil and cook for another 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and browned.
