Put yeast in mug, add warm water and set aside.

Sift dry ingredients in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until the size of small peas.

|
Mix buttermilk with yeast then add to dry ingredients, tossing with a fork. Add small amount of flour and knead for a few minutes.
|
|
|
Lightly roll out to about 1 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter and place in buttered baking dish.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes.
