---Preheat oven to 375°F---
Fill (4 qt.) Dutch oven half full with water. Add 1/2 tsp salt, if desired. Heat unitl water is boiling rapidly. Add macaroni. Heat to boiling again. Boil uncovered for 10-12 mins. Drain well. DO NOT RINSE.
In a large bowl, mix macaroni, cottage cheese. sour cream, 3½ cups cheddar cheese & egg. Mix all ingredients together until blended well. Spread mixture in large casserole dish. Cover loosely with aluminum foil.
Bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil cover. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese over top. Return to oven, uncovered, for 5 mins or until cheese in melted & bubbling. Lightly sprinkle paprika to top the dish.

---If baking in a shallow dish, bake time will be less than stated above. When baking in a deep dish, baking time may take longer.
