In a large pot saute carrots, celery, onion(all diced), bay leaves, and salt for 6-8 min. Add garlic, diced ham, and seasonings. Saute a few more minutes.
Add 2 quarts of cold water, bouillon cubes, and rinsed beans. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer til beans are tender. Maybe 1-2 hours. Salt to taste.
